hell’s ground

last week, i checked out omar khan’s fillum, zibahkana - hell’s ground. not only was this khan’s film, but also pakistan’s first horror and first non-bollywood style film in a long while - pretty exciting, especially for it to come out when the country is in tumult.

most non-bollywood style films are either heavy dramas or exact copies of western movies. hell’s was basically a pakistani version of texas chainsaw massacre with a few of zombies and a little sprinkle of pyscho. i appreciated the realistic portrayal of the protagonists, the means that went into producing this film, and the awesome use of every horror film cliche. i was, however, disappointed that this was another copy of just another western film. typical.

omar khan also spoke after the show and turns out he owns the hot spot ice cream spot in islamabad! big props! his site, the hotspot online, has tons of youtube and wmv links for old pakistani horror and daring film clips. much respect to him and to his passion.
